Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {3D42CCB1-4665-4620-92A3-478F47389230} failed due to the following error: 8007042d

Hi,

I came across this exception several times (rather frequently) while working with the SharePoint server and specially when working on the Search functionality. So this made me share this thing with you all.

Let me tell you the background of why I frequently encoutred this issue:

Needless to say that I’m SharePoint developer who has got his own SharePoint server for developement purpose (Thanks to my employeers for this 🙂 ).

Secondly we people work with AD (LDAP) environment (thats necessity).

Since password of my AD account keeps on changing after a specific time period (blame it to our n/w administrator). So this makes my life hard to work with sharepoint server.

The reason is; all of the settings done for SharePoint Server (services, application pool, database etc.) is through the AD account. So change in the password stops all of the above listed things as they need new password for smooth selling.

So if any time I forget to configure or change the password of the SharePoint Search Service (Office SharePoint Server Search) this will give me this error: “Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {3D42CCB1-4665-4620-92A3-478F47389230} failed due to the following error: 8007042d” .

No doubt that this may not be the only reason for above error but surely it is one of the common reason for generation of this error.

In case if anybuddy encounters this error for some other reason then please let me…. 🙂

Happy SharePoint Configuration & Customization.
